The band has opened for and shared the stage with legendary artists who helped define the sound of the 70s and 80s, including Donna Summer, Tower of Power, The Village People, KC and the Sunshine Band, Earth, Wind & Fire, and many more of the era's iconic disco, funk and rock acts.
Fungi Mungle brings the biggest sounds of the 70s and 80s together in one high-energy live show, mixing disco, funk, rock and pop with recognizable hits, a visual time warp back to the 70s and 80s, big personalities, and a frontman who doesn't just perform for the crowd, he pulls them into the experience and sends the room into a dance-party frenzy.

Originating from El Paso, Texas with 30+ years of performances, major festivals, corporate events, in front of audiences of thousands, Fungi Mungle has become the Southwest's most recognizable live party band. For more than 15 years, Fungi Mungle has sold out Cool Canyon Nights at McKelligon Canyon in El Paso, a signature outdoor concert series that has become one of the band's longest-running showcases.

Frontman, funkmaker, and fourth-generation boot craftsman, Joey Mungle has been bringing the groove to life for more than 30 years. As the creator and voice of Fungi Mungle, Joey turns every stage into a dance floor with his unstoppable energy, humor, and larger-than-life style.
Offstage, Joey leads Caboots, a family-run custom boot company rooted in four generations of craftsmanship and Texas soul. He’s carried a proud El Paso legacy into the modern age — blending artistry, authenticity, and rock ’n’ roll spirit in every stitch.

David Hamilton
Dave Hamilton - Bass - Vocals
David is a bassist, cellist, vocalist, composer, and recording artist whose versatile talent spans genres and generations. He’s performed and recorded with legendary acts such as Bobby Rock, Mark Slaughter, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Platters, and The Marvelettes.
Beyond the stage, David serves as Music Director at Da Vinci School and Music Coordinator for the Burnham Wood Charter District, where he inspires the next generation of musicians. A proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, David continues to blend education, creativity, and performance in every note he plays.
Gil Mata
Guitars - B Vocals - Musical Director Gil is a versatile multi-instrumentalist whose primary passion lies with the guitar. Known for his mastery across musical styles, Gil is frequently called upon by touring theater productions for his exceptional musicianship and professionalism.
As the Musical Director of the band, Gil crafts high-energy arrangements that keep the dance floor packed and the crowd grooving all night long.
He also serves as Head of the Music Department at Hanks High School, where his dedication to education and artistry earned him recognition as Teacher of the Year in 2019. A proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, Gil continues to inspire both on stage and in the classroom with his creativity, precision, and passion for music.
Charlie Perez
Keyboards - B Vocals Charlie is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist whose musical range seems limitless. He’s toured with major Tejano bands, bringing passion, precision, and flair to every performance.
As a member of Fungi Mungle, Charlie takes the show to a whole new level with his powerhouse keytar performances, electrifying the stage and keeping audiences on their feet all night long.
Offstage, Charlie serves as a Behavior Specialist and Threat Assessor with the Ysleta Independent School District, showing the same heart and commitment he brings to his music.
Music runs deep in his family — his mentor and father recorded and toured with legends Vicente Fernández and Juan Gabriel, a legacy Charlie proudly carries forward every time he takes the stage.
Eddie Tarin
Drums
Eddie Tarin is the newest powerhouse to join Fungi Mungle, bringing fresh energy and unstoppable rhythm to the lineup. An in-demand drummer throughout the Southwest, Eddie’s rock-solid groove and explosive style keep the band driving and the dance floor packed all night long.
When he’s not behind the kit, Eddie is a top-rated international bodybuilder, channeling the same strength, focus, and intensity into his music that he brings to competition. Whether it’s rhythm or muscle, Eddie delivers pure power every time he hits the stage.
